2018 Western Power Apprentices

We welcome the 12 new apprentices who kicked off their Western Power careers by attending a week long induction program at PTS in January.

This year Western Power offered four types of apprenticeships. Between the 12 new employees there will be three line workers, four electrical, three cable jointers and two mechanical apprentices. Ranging in ages from 18 to 29, they hail from country and metro WA and will be based at our Northam, Picton, Kewdale, Jandakot and Stirling depots.

These newest employees reflect the diversity of our community and have taken various journeys on their path to Western Power. Some are straight out of school and have long wanted to work for Western Power, while others already have an electrical background.

Welcoming the group on their first day, Western Power CEO Guy Chalkley said competition for the positions had been fierce. "We had more than 1,200 applications for these roles, showing how well regarded this opportunity for a Western Power apprenticeship is."

Eleni Tzaikos, Management Systems & Training Manager, said "We are proud to take on such a diverse group, and the unique experience they bring to Western Power. The training PTS provides is focussed on ensuring we keep everyone safe – as we prepare apprentices to deal with a hazard they can’t see or smell."

Training for each four-year apprenticeship will be delivered by PTS and TAFE, combined with on-the-job experience at their respective depots between desk- based training.
